Azure’s MFA Mandate 👮

Azure’s (Microsoft) Logo

Starting in October this year, Microsoft will activate and enforce MFA for all users of Azure. This decision comes from proved research that implementation of this can prevent up to 99.2% of comprised attacks.

It’s easy to see why the company has decided on this decision as many of the attacks this year has been due to a lack of MFA.

Fortunately, Microsoft is giving it’s customer base plenty of lee-way to prepare for this impending change. All users of Entra Global received alerts on the 16th of August to begin setting up MFA ahead of time.

They also promised to work directly with customers that have very complex environments to assist them in properly setting up this new criteria.

It is expected that in 2025 that the rest of the Azure suite will enforce this new rule with the rest of its customer base.

The company believes that the following may be compromised.

“The information that was suspected of being breached contained name, email address, phone number, social security number, and mailing address(es).”

While the global damage is quite high with an unknown number of affected individuals, we have a known number for the US. Over 1.3 million Americans are faced with the damage of their stolen information.

Currently the company is cooperating with law enforcement and has made a public announcement on their website that you can follow up on here.
