Big Risk for Chrome Users ahead…

Chromes Password Storage comes under attack

A 2 year old ransomware group known as Qilin has just switched up their game. They have recently gained notoriety for targeting London hospitals, now this group also decided to delve into personal data theft as well. Apparently not satisfied with only taking company data, they are now taking advantage of Google’s password feature to harvest user passwords on infected machines.

The attackers got into the networks of their targets then used the infected services to target any user who logged onto the servers. Once they infected the users, they attempted to use that access to steal all the saved chrome passwords they could. Qilin’s attack method was pretty ingenious and highlights yet another risk of keeping passwords in your browser.

There have been numerous attacks on browser-saved passwords in the past, and Qilin’s novel attack highlights yet another flaw. If you save important passwords in chrome or any browser it is highly recommended you break away from that pattern. There are password managers which follow best practices of security, and the old pen and paper method is 100 percent secure. It may be a bit inconvenient but millions of people have been hurt by carless password storage and its better to be safe than sorry!

Massive DDOS Attack on a Microsoft Server

An Unprecedented DDOS attack was recently reported by Australian security company Global Secure Layer (GSL). The attack targeted a large Minecraft server that uses GSL for protection. The attack tried to over load the server with up to 3.15 billion packets per second. This is around 3.5 times more packets than the previous record.

While there have been larger-scale attacks, like the 2017 attack on Google in terms of bandwidth. This one has raised a few eyebrows in the industry. One for its massive packet rate and another for the fact that the security company mostly stopped it without issue. GSL’s in house system handled the assault smoothly, and also gathered valuable data demonstrating the effectiveness of modern security measures in real-time.

DDoS attacks have been increasing in both scale and complexity, with this latest attack reinforcing the trend. Thought DDoS attacks are growing in size, services like GSL are proving that the defense against them is evolving just as quickly. Perhaps even outpacing attackers at last.
